CNET Networks, the company behind CNET, ZDNet, GameSpot.com, TV.com, CNET News, UrbanBaby, BNET, CHOW and Search.com, have been acquired by media giant and oldie, CBS fir $1.8 billion.
At first this would have sounded like a great big buy out that would rival Time Warner's acquisition of AOL or the possible merger of Yahoo and Microsoft, or the Google acquisition of YouTube. However, this comes as a diappointment to many people keeping tabs on the business side of CNET.
Leslie Moonves, President and Chief Executive Officer at CBS Corporation, said this about the acquisition:
“There are very few opportunities to acquire a profitable, growing, well-managed Internet company like CNET Networks. CBS stands for premium content and unparalleled reach, and CNET Networks will add a tremendous pla...more

Michael Arrington of TechCrunch reported yesterday that his blog network TechCrunch will be losing one of their best writers today. Sure enough, Duncan Riley, Techcrunch's most prolific writer signed off from Techcrunch with his last post announcing his intentions and gratitude.
"This is my last post at TechCrunch as a full time writer (I may yet do the occasional guest post). It’s exactly 12 months to the day since I started writing here and the date seemed like a good time to go. I won’t bore you with a self indulgent retrospective; if you are interested in my reasons and thoughts I did a podcast with my old site The Blog Herald yesterday - listen to here."

When Fidel Castro stepped down as president of the communist state of Cuba, his brother Raul took the helm. As part of the new leadership, Cubans are now allowed to own computers but internet access is still controlled.
The internet control however is not as absolute as North Korea but more stringent than China. This means that there is a huge black market and many bootlegging allowing Cuban bloggers to show the world what's going on inside Cubans' lives.
There are already a couple of blogs from Cuban authors making their way into the mainstream and gaining a lot of international support. One of these blogs is Generacion Y . The blog already has more than a million hit, mostly from ...more

I've been hearing and reading about this all week.
As a marketing strategy, I'm impressed. It concerns moe though that now the secret is out, who'll be interested? Well, I guess the purpose is over and after Adam Lyons signed a book deal, that's good enough to call it quits.

Many online users got disappointed when Pandora.com stopped offering its web service for most users outside the U.S. due to licensing issues. Before that happened, Pandora was widely known as a premier source of internet radio, not only because of the quality it provides but also because of its known wide music base.
A recently launched website is trying to fill in the void that Pandora's decision has made in world wide web. Aggrega.com launched its beta recently and almost instantly it has been declared as the “Pandora of music videos.” The basic idea of Aggrega is to enable users to create their own own music video channel, vote for videos they like, and be able to share their video channels on their websites, blogs, webpages and so on. The site has a recommendation engine that offers you se...more
