Youtube has a very lenient policy to copyright infringement.  With a gazillion videos in their servers and just an office full of people scouring their database for pirated videos, it's really quite easy to get original copyright videos on Youtube.  Of course some valiant brown noser might flag it or the video owner might request Youtube to take it down.  All without persecuting users who duplicated original content and posted it online.

However, that may be about to change.  Google, the owner of Youtube, has been in a court battle with Viacom regarding these infractions since the search engine acquired the video sharing site.  Today, a judge in New York handed down a decision that will put Youtube users in Viacom's crosshairs.

The order states that Google hand over all records of all videos uploaded ...more

  • New on Flickr: video.

The long awaited integration of videos in Flickr has finally come.  Flickr has been planning this feature for quite a while and the limitations of the feature have been well thought of as not to overlap with the features of video sites like YouTube.

"The goal is not to have people upload long videos or clips of copyrighted material. To reinforce that, videos can be only 90 seconds in length and 150MB in size (however these limitations may be changed later, Srivastava says)." [TechCrunch]

The new feature comes with the realization that almost all digital cameras have video capabilities and along with users snapping away there's ...more

  • Amid the ruckus Microsoft has been making on Yahoo, Yahoo has launched their new service called Yahoo Live which was announced by Jerry Yang at CES 2008 in January.

Yahoo Live is a video platform for live video streaming, chat and surfing where users can in real timewatch videos together while IMing and surfing.  Yahoo claims that the service is still in experimental mode.  The service started working fine until a thousand users signed on and when that number increased, the service was practically useless.  Yahoo politely displays their error message saying that they weren't prepared for the influx.

  • YouTube today released their mobile version of their website.  Actually, they already did make their site for mobile last year but that was for a limited number of videos.  This time however, Youtube optimized their mobile site for most of their content.  The mobile version is available at m.youtube.com for 3G and/or WiFi capable  phones.

There is also a downloadable application for  mobiles on the new mobile version of YouTube where users can use YouTube like on an iPhone.  Though this application may no longer be needed since most of the videos and features can be used through the mobile phone's browser.

Users can also upload videos directly from the mobile phone to YouTube with the new portal.

The optimized site however is not yet complete.  It will work on a 3G/WiFi handset but willuse the handset's media...more

  • TV-Links shut down last October after autorities raided their office and arrested its founder.

They made no announcement anywhere but by word of mouth, we finally got the news and it made out new year great!  WE know that they've been raided, their servers have been confiscated, their founder arrested and their URL pointed to nothing.

As of writing, TV-Links is now again available in all their glory for freeloaders and lovers of free stuff.  They are now  accessible via another URL, not much different that the previous one, http://tv-links.cc.  Now, if the FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) is smart enough, they probably know this as well but apparently .cc is not based in UK so it may take a while ...more

  • Youtube the world's largest video sharing site has been really behind when it came to uploading features of its service.  Users were only allowed to upload videos one at a time using a web interface.  The sadder thing about that was it had a limit of up to 100MB per upload only.

Today, Youtube has taken some steps in the direction Google video  had quite a while ago.  YOuTube released thir desktop uploaded application.  This allows users to upload video files in bulk.  Every multiple upload can size up to 1GB.  However, individual videos will still be limited to 10 minutes each.  The advantage of all the size is that more high quality video will now be available on YouTube.

The uploader is now only available for Windows users but a Mac ...more

  • Hulu is the name ClownCo decided on a week ago after 5 months of deliberations.
It's supposed to be the YouTube killer product from Universal NBC.   Today however, they are being sued by Lulu.

Lulu is a self-publishing Web site with headquarters in Morrisville, North Carolina that serves authors, artists, musicians and businesses. It offers print-on-demand publishing and order fulfillment through an online store featuring the works of its customers. The Web site provides tools for creators to publish their books, music and audio files, video and images digitally. Compared to most other web-based print-on-demand companies, Lulu is unusual in that...more

  • YouTube as we all know is a 21st century phenomenon. Many competition and niche sites have based upon the billion dollar website and religion is not far behind.

Relaunched today is GodTube, the Christian Youtube as they call it. Basically, it's a video sharing site that does everything doable on YouTube but the content is exclusively Religious or Christian Related. Their first launch did not actaually create waves in the blogoshpere but with this relaunch, GodTube has appeared on national television and everybody's loving it.

Videos include a variety of music, teachings, stories and on the lighter side there are also Church bloopers.  Oddly, it is the Church bloopers that get the most views! (Blasphemy!)

All in all, I think GodTube gives Christians a goody-two-shoes site mothers won't...more

  • MegaVideo has launched and they're taking on Google's little pet head on. Based out of hongKong, Mega Video claims right on their slogan that they are better than YouTube. I haven't found any reaction from YouTube yet but I guess they're just letting MegaVideo prove itself.

In a featured video on the frontpage of MegaVideo, they say that they are better than YouTube in 10 ways:

    1. Video publishers can earn money through a rewards program

    2.  Publishers can also earn money through AdBrite in-video advertisements

    3.  Users can move the playback position to anywhere in the video

    4.  The website supports twenty languages

    5. The video player can be customized to match the designs of websites where you want to embed

    6.  There is no maximum playtime for video uploads
