The Associated Press recently went to war with blogs and bloggers. They claim that posting excerpts of their articles on other blogs is unjust. They are even saying that this is practice of copyright infringement and will prosecute those who violate. For now they are just slapping a $12.50 fee on bloggers who post excerpts from AP articles.
Michael Arrington, founder and editor of TechCrunch, has been one of the most vocal activists against this recent move of the Associate Press. He rallied all the bloggers to boycott the AP and even (along with others) play dirty by posting as much AP excerpts as they can on their blogs.
Indeed this war between bloggers and the AP is getting some speed. Arrington is on the front line like a madman wit...more

Well, isn't this just a week for breaking records? Yes it is.
Yesterday, Apple announced that their iTunes music store has hit the 5-billion-songs-sold mark since the day they started five years ago. According to AppleInsider , "The digital download service is the number one music retailer in the US, according to the most recent data from NPD Group's MusicWatch survey, and features the largest music catalog with over eight million songs."
iTunes has indeed changed the way people purchase music (when they purchase them at all). The iTunes+iPod/iPhone infrastructure makes it undeniably easy to consume media hence the popularity of the gadgets and the sto...more

Yahoo just launched a additional domains for their email users.
In addition to "yahoo.com" Yahoomail users can now sign up for "ymail.com" and "rocketmail.com" accounts. Yahoo is the largest email provider in the world and virtually every user name in the "yahoo.com" domain has been taken. Chances are if you sign up for a "yourname@yahoo.com" account, it's already taken.
Yahoo's solution is simple, add new domains. Now users don't have to sign up for user names with long number codes as suffixes. With the new domains, your name is porobably still available. You can sign up for "yourname@ymail.com" or "yourname@rocketmail.com"
Actually, I've already taken my name again.
This could also be a goldmine for domainers w...more

Well, isn't it just good sportsmanship even without sports going on. The Microsoft IE team shows good conduct by sending their friends at the Mozilla camp a cake to congratulate the Firefox Team on a successful release and the Guiness World Record .
If you still haven't gotten the new Firefox, well you'll be more than the 8 millionth person to download the browser. The Firefox Team was trying to set a world record for the new browser as being the most downloaded software in 24 hours. Their initial target was 5 million which they achieved early. By the end of the day, they had a total of 8.3 million downloads.
Firefox is the world's favorite open source browser and in recent years it has been trumping Internet Explorer even if most of the wor...more
No more 10-minute limit for YouTube users. At least, for their "content partners," that's currently the case with the site releasing its new 1GB policy to these guys.
YouTube is probably one of the largest and busiest (in terms of site traffic) sites in the internet today with more than 50 million monthly uniques in the United States alone. With this new policy of "Long Form Content," the site management is allowing their "content partners" to upload up to 1GB of video. That's approximately one hour and thirty minutes; enough to publish a standard full-length film. Since its founding in 2005, YouTube's 10-minute limit has quite served its original purpose: to publish short clips of videos without bridging copyright laws plus, the limit keeps bandwidth costs at a minimum.
So, why the sudden shift ...more
Well, they've done it. Nobody doubted it anyway although there were some who thought that the servers might conk out. Still, after a rough start, Mozilla reached their target, making Firefox 3 the record holder for the most downloaded software in 24 hours.
Mozilla did invite everybody they could telling them that we could all set a world record on June 17 by downloading the latest release version of Firefox. They said that they wanted to reach 5 million downloads by the end of 24 hours.
The 5 million mark was broken a couple of hours before the deadline at 12pm ET. Two hours to the deadline, 7.3 million have downloaded the browser and by the time the tallying stopped, the count was at about 7.5-8 million.

The blog search engine Technorati has expressed to the Internet public its plans of venturing into the blog advertising network.
Blog focused advertising has been long dominated by Federated Media and Glam, with successfully recorded financing rounds in the last few months based on the number of hits per day. Technorati CEO Richard Jalichandra wishes to make it known that they'll be doing the same with that of their competitors, including Six Apart. Technorati is confident that with the monthly 17 million visitors of blogs, advertising will be a great avenue for them to be traveling on.
With big names such as Honda, Acura, Toyota, T-Mobile, Adobe, HP, Sandisk, MSFT, Verizon, Sun, Sony, Visa, Nike, Scion, Chevrolet, Paramount, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Best Buy as their early advertisers, i...more
Ok, I don't have an iPhone. I assumed that Apple's first iPhone last year would simply be a stepping stone for a better one and I was right. Apple released the iPhone 3G last week and boy I got to admit, I want one. Actually the 3G feature was the only thing standing in my way of getting the first iPhone, so now that the package is complete, I'm thinking maybe it's time to get one.
That being said, is the iPhone the way to go? Even the iPhone 3G has its flaws, lots of it. First, all that proprietary hardware and software they have to go with. Second, you'll have to buy even the content just to make it look as good as you expected it to be. Then there's the unchangeable batteries, the expansion card (though with 8GB, would you really need one?), the tactile controls, the camera, etc, and maybe other things along th...more

The 2008 Beijing Olympics is arguably one of the most technologically-forward sporting event in history. The Chinese capital is pulling all the stops from building the biggest airport to constructing the longest bridge along with uniquely-shaped sporting venues such as the Olympic Stadium that is shaped like a bird's nest. Aside from these, visitors will also get to see the world's largest color LED display.
The GreenPix Zero Energy Media Wall is a gigantic display consisting of over 2,000 color LEDs combined with China 's first photovoltaic system then integrated into a glass curtain wall stretching up to 2,200 square meters. It is designed by New York-based architect Simone Garcia in cooperation with China 's solar powerhouse Suntech.
The technology works by laminating the polycrystalline photovoltaic cells w...more

The Associated Press is a cooperative of virtually all the best news publications in the world. Most of the time they provide free news on the internet which we see on Yahoo or Google or where ever. Recently, the AP announced its intention to harass bloggers who publish snippets as short as 39 words from AP stories.
Now they are taking it a lot further, they now published a web form through which intimidated parties can give the AP money in return for “permission” to publis...more
